Russia's return to PACE provoked a squabble in Kyiv
Vladimir Zelensky today, at an emergency briefing in Kyiv, responded to accusations from Verkhovna Rada deputies that the president did not make sufficient efforts to prevent the return of the rights of the Russian delegation to PACE.
Zelensky said that he called for the rights of the Russian delegation not to be returned during his recent visit to France and Germany, but European leaders made it clear that the decision in favor of Moscow had long been made, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In addition to the meeting with Frau Merkel, with President Macron, I had seven meetings every day. I spent two days in Paris, I was in Germany and I was in Brussels. At every meeting, when asked about the return of Russia to PACE, believe me, each of those people with whom I met told me: “Vladimir, understand, this is the situation, PACE is a platform for negotiations,” that is, this decision was a long time ago. Every person I asked this question to, they knew this answer one hundred percent. By the way, I spoke about this abroad, but unfortunately, they did not hear me. That is, the decision was made a long time ago. I did everything I could, but it was all after the fact.
Therefore, if our respected deputies contact me about what I did for this, I can turn to them - what did they do for this to prevent this from happening?” – Zelensky said.
Earlier, Rada deputy Oleg Lyashko said that Zelensky should have arrived at the PACE meeting to personally speak and urge not to return the rights of the Russian delegation.
“The Strasbourg conspiracy occurred not only because of aggressive imperial Russia, not only because of the corruption and cynicism of Europeans, but also because of the unprofessionalism and inaction of the current government and Zelensky personally, who did nothing to prevent Russian revenge,” argued Lyashko.
