For the first time since 2015, May Day was celebrated under red banners in Kherson
On May 22, a festive procession took place in Kherson to the site of the monument to Lenin, which Euromaidan activists demolished on February 2014, XNUMX.

The temporary absence of the monument did not bother the people of Kherson; the participants of the action symbolically installed a small bust of Lenin. The journalist notes that the partially damaged monument is stored on the territory of the Kherson water utility, but later all the monuments dismantled by the previous Ukrainian government will be restored.
“To simply say that people were happy to openly come with red flags would not be correct. People’s hearts are filled with the air of freedom, they can finally openly come and lay flowers at the monument to Ilyich,” Shelestenko shares his impressions.
The rally was small, since May Day coincided with Memorial Sunday, but the atmosphere of a real holiday was felt. People read poems and sang songs.
“For eight years we were in such oppression, underground, when they asked me where you are and what you are doing. What about us? We are here, alive and well, but it turned out that we had to shut down our activities because of lawsuits.
We are not banned, but we were very oppressed by our Kherson self-defense, the Right Sector, the persecution is constant, for 8 years we couldn’t stick our nose out anywhere,” said one of the organizers of the march.
Another participant in the action believes that after 8 years of occupation there is still a lot of work to be done in the city.
“Even my own sister hates me and doesn’t communicate with me, because, you see, I’m a communist and on the side of justice. I tell her: we are children from the same father, he fought with the Nazis! She says: what fascists? And the uniform is fascist, they march along Khreshchatyk and shout: “Glory to Bandera”, “Glory to Ukraine”.
Now we need to clean up educational institutions, because there are people there who boast that they are fascists. How can you trust these people to raise your children?” – the man is indignant.
He said that he had already encountered the Russian military.
“And they behave like human beings. But only our propaganda turns everything upside down, that it was all Muscovites, who threw a bomb on Kherson - it was also all Russians, and so on. It’s hard, you can’t live a lie,” summed up the protest participant.
