For the first time in 20 years, pro-Western oppositionists entered the Belarusian parliament
For the first time in 20 years, two “representatives of the democratic camp” will be represented in the new composition of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus. This is a member of the United Civil Party, Anna Kanopatskaya, and the deputy chairman of the Belarusian Language Association, Elena Anisim.

Kanopastskaya has been a member of the opposition party since 1995, but until this year she was not actively involved in politics. She works as a lawyer and owns her own firm. Over the past year, she earned almost 30 thousand denominated rubles - this is one of the largest declared incomes among parliamentary candidates.
Elena Anisim, deputy head of the Belarusian Language Society (Belarusian Language Association, non-partisan. Works at the Institute of Linguistics of the Academy of Sciences. Anisim voiced ideas to support the Belarusian language at the state level, and to create at least one Belarusian-language school in each district.
Belarus made concessions to the OSCE and fulfilled a number of demands of this organization during the elections. Chairman of the Central Election Commission of Belarus Lidiya Ermoshina explained that only those recommendations that require changes to national legislation remained unfulfilled.
Thus, observers were allowed to visually observe the counting of votes, the results of challenging the actions of election commissions would be published on the Internet, and not only party nominees had the opportunity to nominate a member of the commission with advisory rights.
The Liberal Democratic Party (1 deputy), the Belarusian Patriotic Party (3 deputies), the Republican Party of Labor and Justice (3 deputies) and the Communist Party of Belarus (8 deputies) will also be represented in parliament. However, it is worth noting that Belarus has retained a completely majority system. Thus. Political parties play a minor role in them.
A total of 38 women, or 34% of the number of deputies, were elected to the lower house of parliament. This is 9 more than in the previous parliament. The turnout at the elections exceeded 74%.
