Bodo Ramelow is the first Prime Minister of the German Left in Germany. The 58-year-old politician won enough votes in the second round on Friday in Thuringia to lead the state government. These are the voices of the future left-wing coalition in the Thuringian government, uniting the Left, SPD and Greens.
Immediately after the announcement of the election results, Ramelov was sworn in.
Despite the fact that Bodo Ramelov’s activities were criticized by German President Joachim Gauck, the politician has support among wide circles of the population. He is remembered for the fact that he gave his election speeches against the backdrop of a red bust of Marx.
Ramelow said the coalition government would pursue a pragmatic policy and would be a “project of reconciliation,” which has still not occurred between the western and eastern states of a united Germany.
Let us recall that the leaders of the German “Left”, in particular Gregor Gysi and Sarah Wagenknecht, Merkel is criticized for her anti-Russian policies and actual support of Nazi forces in the new government and the Rada of Ukraine. The alliance of the Left, Greens and SPD is the main competitor of the current CDU/CSU coalition, on which Angela Merkel relies.
