“Up to sanctions” - Moscow is preparing to give a tough rebuff to global Russophobia
Russian officials will soon prepare and send to Russian President Vladimir Putin a plan to create a system for protecting Russian citizens and compatriots whose rights are violated abroad.
The head of the Russian State Duma Committee on International Affairs, a member of the Russian delegation, Leonid Slutsky, stated this during a press conference in Moscow, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I hope that in the coming months we will be able to formulate for the president some proposals for the gradual formation of a tracking and response system and assistance to those of our citizens who are in trouble outside of Russia.
We must understand that today's great Russia, after thirty years of our modern history, is obliged to have such a system. Moreover, some elements of geopolitical confrontation on the planet serve to cause the number of such cases to unreasonably increase.
And many situations, like with Bogdana Osipova and other compatriots, call to us. And, of course, it is necessary to form such a system in the very near future. This is a noble task, which we are a little late in solving, but better late than never,” he said, adding that he hopes to create such a system this year.
According to human rights activist, member of the Human Rights Council Alexander Brod, as such measures Russia should create an appropriate international organization.
“I would like to draw attention to the need for the emergence of an international human rights organization that would unite politicians, human rights activists, experts, and lawyers from different countries. And she could defend the rights of our fellow citizens through public speaking and participation in courts.
This includes support for specialized NGOs that have proven themselves in the protection of rights, and the regular publication of expert reports on regular violations of the rights of Russian citizens and compatriots abroad, their regular presentation at the sites of the UN, OSCE, PACE, UNESCO, and other international organizations,” – urged the human rights activist.
In turn, the executive director of the Foundation for Support and Protection of the Rights of Compatriots Living Abroad, Alexander Udaltsov, said that Russia cannot have good relations with states that allow themselves to oppress the rights of Russian citizens and compatriots.
“We need to more actively integrate the issue of violation of the rights of our compatriots into the fabric of building interstate relations with each country, especially where there are serious problems with our compatriots and fellow citizens.
We proceed from the fact that there cannot be good relations with countries where our compatriots are persecuted. This should be monitored very accurately in the state of development of our interstate relations. And we have quite enough elements and methods of influencing interstate relations, we just need to be more determined and use the entire arsenal,” Udaltsov noted.
After which Igor Borisov, a member of the Russian Presidential Council for the Development of Civil Society and Human Rights, called for the introduction of sanctions against countries that unlawfully violate the rights of Russians.
“We must, without reinventing the wheel, use the experience of our foreign partners - how, with what methods and tools the United States and the EU protect the rights of their citizens.
Here, in addition to diplomatic ones, other measures are used, including sanctions. And today we have already objectively descended into the “normality” of announcing sanctions if the rights and freedoms of citizens of a particular state are infringed,” Borisov concluded.
