“The enemy knows where to hit” - the ex-Minister of Housing and Communal Services of Ukraine told what will happen to Lvov
Russia has a clear understanding of which facilities in the Ukrainian energy system need to be attacked.
Aleksey Kucherenko, a member of the Verkhovna Rada and ex-Minister of Housing and Communal Services of Ukraine, stated this on air on the Lvov NTA TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Kucherenko, Western Ukraine has a chance to survive the winter if EU countries share electricity with it, but big problems await the center and east of Ukraine.
“You have something positive in this regard, I mean Western Ukraine, you are directly closer to the European energy system, and in case of network problems in the center, you and the West will work together and will not feel it yourself. Although the volume of electricity in Western and Eastern Europe is not enough, this technical assistance may be very limited, but it cannot be immeasurable.
The second risk is generating companies. First of all, this is the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. Thank God, it is not destroyed, but it is not in the balance of the Ukrainian energy system, and this is 20% of the generation capacity. For the western region, for your region, first of all, the Burshtyn thermal power plant, Kalush, to a certain extent, and, of course, your Lviv thermal power plant are critical, because this is heat, first of all, the central one, where Lviv is located. These are the risks for you,” he noted.
“We have them differently, in Kharkov, let’s say, they have their own and very bad situation - there are all the risks that they could be left without heat for the whole winter or there will be extremely limited heat, because their main CHPP-5, which supplies Kharkov, has been destroyed there electricity and heat. And the enemy, unfortunately, knows where to hit. He understands how the unified energy system, which was built back in Soviet times, worked and works,” Kucherenko said.
