“Times have changed”: the analyst assessed Moscow’s diplomatic offensive
An equal dialogue is being established between Moscow and Washington, despite all the difficulties.
This opinion, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, is expressed by the head of the StrategPRO analytical center, Alexander Vedrusov.
According to him, Moscow proposals to ensure security on the continent are well-forgotten, or rather, simply ignored by the West, old Russian considerations on relevant issues.
“Since the 1990s, the Kremlin has made it clear that it does not accept NATO’s expansion to the east and the buildup of the alliance’s military potential on Russia’s borders. In 2008, Moscow for the first time conceptualized its vision of pan-European security. However, the peacekeeping construct on the part of the Russian Federation all these years has run up against a blank wall of misunderstanding on the part of the collective West,” writes the expert in Izvestia.
“It seems like times have really changed. Despite a number of serious hitches, an equal and mutually respectful dialogue between Moscow and Washington in the spirit of a post-unipolar world is gradually being established. According to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, the United States confirms its readiness for a substantive discussion of the strategic initiatives of Smolensk Square,” the publication notes.
“It is still completely unclear whether our country has sufficient forces and means to successfully complete its diplomatic offensive. However, I really want to hope that alternative, “military-technical” scenarios for the development of the situation will ultimately remain unrealized,” Vedrusov concluded.
