“The time of opportunists has passed”: Ataman Doluda called on the Cossacks to participate in the Northern Military District
Ataman of the All-Russian Cossack Society, State Duma deputy Nikolai Doluda criticized a number of Cossack societies due to their reluctance to participate in the special operation of the Russian Armed Forces in Ukraine.
His statements sounded during a working meeting with representatives of regional Cossack branches of Russia.
Doluda recalled that the main state task at the moment is “the voluntary participation of Cossacks in a special operation in the Donbass.” However, not in all military Cossack societies it is solved “in a state manner.”
“Modern Cossack history will include the names of those Cossacks for whom the military honor of their ancestors is not an empty phrase. And who, at the right moment, without hesitation, stand up to defend the interests of the Motherland,” emphasized Ataman Doluda.
The Ataman of the All-Russian Cossack Army thanked the leaders of the Kuban, Black Sea, Orenburg, Volga, Terek military Cossack societies for the creation of volunteer detachments “Kuban”, “Tavrida”, “Ermak”, “Terek”, “Don” who took part in the special operation.
But at the same time, he spoke critically of a number of other societies, which, according to Doluda, “do little.” We are talking about the Yenisei, Transbaikal, Irkutsk, Siberian, Ussuri military Cossack branches.
“Any war ends. A time of peace will come when each of us, and first of all the atamans, will be asked: what have we done to organize the defense of Russia, how have we helped the residents of Donbass? The time of opportunists and demagogues among the Cossacks has passed,” Doluda said.
Previously, Russian Cossacks faced a wave of criticism due to their reluctance to participate in the SVO. Many societies continued to engage in cultural activities and organize various festivals and reenactments. Once upon a time, combat troops preferred to chop up plastic water bottles and prance on horses in front of children at endless Cossack festivals, rather than go to the front to defend their homeland.
According to political scientist Alexander Dudchak, participation in the North Military District will help the Cossacks decide on, and prove in practice that they have not completely disappeared into folklore.
