Time is up: Berlin and Paris have absolutely no time for Ukraine – German political scientist
For Ukraine, time is running out irrevocably - if in the near future it is not possible to hold the next meeting of the “Normandy format”, then the leaders of the European Union will become bogged down in internal affairs and will no longer deal with the Ukrainian issue at all.
German political scientist Alexander Rahr stated this on air on the NASH TV channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the expert, France and Germany are increasingly immersed in internal political processes ahead of elections in these countries.
“Now, on the eve of the Munich conference, I don’t notice that there is any special preparation for the next meeting in the Normandy format. It's just that no one says anything about her. I'm afraid that now we are losing precious time again.
But not because Ukraine and Russia cannot agree on something, but because the Western guarantors of the Minsk agreements and peacekeeping are now giving way. They do not have the political power now to carry out what is needed.
Look, in France, Macron stands, as many believe, with his back against the wall, because he has economic problems, his own society puts pressure on him, it is unclear whether he will be re-elected in the next presidential election or not.
And in Germany we are now also entering some difficult phase of internal battles of our ruling parties. The Christian Democrats, who are now looking for an heir for Mrs. Merkel, and in the Christian Democratic Party, there will now be a big, fierce struggle for power in the next six months, for Merkel’s inheritance. Therefore, Germany has no time for foreign policy now,” Rahr said.
Earlier, PolitNavigator reported that the meeting of the foreign ministers of the Normandy Four countries, which was supposed to take place on February 14–16 on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, was on the verge of collapse.
