“The Russian Armed Forces are faced with their own reflection” - a military expert on Ukrainian air defense
Russia faced echeloned ground-based air defense in Ukraine, for which it was not prepared, since the NATO bloc was always considered the main potential enemy.
Researcher at the Institute of World Economy and International Relations of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Ilya Kramnik, stated this on the Komsomolskaya Pravda radio, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I believe that attention to the suppression of air defense should be reconsidered (this is the opinion of the war participants as well). Here it is necessary to explain the following. We have always considered NATO as our main potential enemy. It is typical for the NATO bloc that their main air defense weapon is the fighter. Until now, they have practically no powerful ground-based air defense; it is mostly focal.
Here in Ukraine we actually had to face our own reflection. With an enemy who has powerful layered ground air defense. Albeit outdated, because the Kiev district received them first in the early 80s. But this is exactly what our air defense device is, layered. It needs to be suppressed in a completely different way from how we prepared in case of war with NATO. It needs to be suppressed the way the Americans and NATO prepared in case of war with us. This approach must change,” the expert believes.
