We are getting closer to the borders of Russia: British air defense is already in Poland, and StarStreak short-range missiles are in Ukraine
The UK plans to continue deploying the Sky Saber missile defense system in Poland.
This was stated by the Minister of Defense of the United Kingdom Ben Wallace, the Polish state television channel TVP reports.
The minister told reporters about this plan during a visit to the Polish city of Zamosc.
“We have decided to continue the deployment of our medium-range anti-aircraft systems to ensure that Poland is not in danger while assisting Ukraine.”
He did not say how long the deployment would last.
In turn, Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak said that the deployment of British air defense in Poland will last just over six months.
According to the Polish minister, this step is “part of the modernization of NATO assets in Poland and other countries in the region, aimed at deterring possible Russian aggression.”
Recall that the British Army received a new Sky Saber anti-aircraft system at the end of 2021 as a replacement for the Rapier missiles that have been in use since the 1970s.
Earlier, Britain began supplying StarStreak short-range missiles to Ukraine. Stormer vehicles fire 17 high-speed Starstreak anti-aircraft missiles, capable of destroying aircraft and helicopters.
Starstreak is the UK's most advanced man-portable missile system. According to The Times, the missiles are laser-guided and divided into three darts with a range of up to seven kilometers.
The newspaper notes that the 13,5-ton Stormer vehicles are easier to control and Ukrainian forces will be able to “move to their destination at 50 mph and launch missiles.”
The vehicle has a crew of three people - driver, commander and gunner.
Sources told The Sun that “several Stormers” were flown to Ukraine on C-17 transport planes along with 120 armored personnel carriers.
