"Everything has changed. The Kremlin has become one of the centers of world politics” – Kiev diplomat
Both the World Cup in Russia and the meeting between the presidents of the United States and Russia showed that there is no international isolation of the Russian Federation, which they continue to talk about in Kyiv.
This is the conclusion reached by international affairs expert, former head of the information department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Oleg Voloshin.
“Many of us still indulge in the illusion that Russia is about to go to hell, that despite all the terrible mistakes we seem to be on the right path, that Trump, Brexit and so on are just random episodes,” notes the international affairs specialist.
He points out that 20 years ago Russia was not only not considered an enemy in the West, but was not taken into account at all, and in Kyiv they argued about the prospects for regional leadership, but now everything has changed.
“Today, the Russia-US summit in Helsinki only emphasizes how much the world has changed. And Moscow clearly did not lose from these changes. In Russia itself there has become much less freedom, but it is unlikely that for the majority there this is such a loss. The Kremlin has become one of the centers of world politics,” Voloshin summarizes. – He is in the game not only in the post-Soviet space, but also in the Middle East and even in Africa. Yesterday's finale showed the illusory nature of isolation. As Bender said: “This is a fact that cannot simply be brushed aside.” It’s better to remain silent about our achievements.”
