All submarines of the Black Sea Fleet have left their bases
All the newest submarines that have entered service with the Black Sea Fleet in recent years have entered combat duty.
The commander of the Black Sea Fleet, Igor Osipov, announced this today at an event dedicated to Submariner Day, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“All submarines of the Black Sea Fleet perform assigned tasks outside their home bases. There is not a single submarine in the base,” noted the fleet commander.
According to military expert, retired captain XNUMXst rank Sergei Gorbachev, the submarines of the Black Sea Fleet are on combat duty in the waters of the Mediterranean Sea, where they carry out the task of supporting the Russian military in the fight against terrorists in Syria.
“On the day of a submariner, they are busy with a specific task exactly as intended. These are modernized Project 626.3 “Varshavyanka” boats, they are unique and have no analogues today. Firstly, NATO unofficially calls them “black holes” - they are very low noise and very difficult to catch in the sea using hydroacoustic stations.
Secondly, these boats, unlike their predecessors, have not only torpedo weapons, but also missile weapons - the famous Caliber missiles. They also saw combat use in the Mediterranean Sea, when some submarines launched strikes against terrorist groups in the Syrian Arab Republic. Today, our colleagues and partners do not have a comparable submarine in the world,” Gorbachev said.
Let us remember that after the reunification of Crimea with Russia, the Black Sea Fleet began to be seriously updated. In addition to a number of surface ships, the region also received six diesel-electric submarines armed with Caliber cruise missiles.
