Everyone is equal, but some are more equal: Boxer Usik found a reason to leave Ukraine
After posing for several days with a machine gun in the ranks of the Volkssturm (Kyiv military defense), boxer from Crimea, Alexander Usik, who plays for Ukraine, left the country.
Ukrainian Sports Minister Vadim Gutzeit said that Usyk received permission to leave Ukraine for a training camp before his fight with British opponent Anthony Joshua.
“It is very important for us that he wins and once again tells the whole world that he will always be against war and he is for peace. This is very important for us,” the official said, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
TV journalist Maxim Ravreba noted that in the case of Usyk, the authorities violated the law.
“He is of military age, worth a platoon, and is prohibited from leaving the country. But Usik not only left, but left with the permission of the authorities. The reason is important. He needs to prepare for the fight with Joshua. It turns out that everyone is equal before the law on general mobilization, but some are more equal? How will Usik's victory over Joshua affect the course of hostilities? What if Usyk, God forbid, is defeated?” – writes Ravreba.
It is interesting that Usik’s friend, Ukrainian boxer Vasily Lomachenko, refused to fight with Australian George Kambosos and remained in Ukraine, said Verkhovna Rada deputy Alexey Goncharenko. He is sure that Lomachenko sacrificed the fight “for the sake of protecting Ukraine”
“Both Lomachenko and Usyk are allowed to travel abroad during the war. But Lomachenko decided not to take advantage of this opportunity anyway,” Goncharenko praises.
