This was stated by Andrei Pankratov, an analyst at the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, according to the press service of the Ukrainian Pig Farmers Association.
“There is practically no pork export. What is produced remains on the domestic market and puts pressure on prices. This, of course, is not a very positive factor,” said Pankratov.
According to him, among the main problems that exports are now facing are the loss of the Russian market and African swine fever in Ukraine, which makes it difficult to find new partners.
In total, in January-September 2016, Ukraine exported 18 thousand pigs.
“Currently there is only one buyer of Ukrainian livestock – Georgia. However, it cannot be said that pigs are exported en masse. On the contrary, a tiny part of the livestock is exported – 0,2% of the total volume within the country.”
