We are imprisoning everyone for violating the language law - Sprechenführer of Ukraine
From July 16, the maintenance of websites and pages on social networks by heads of government bodies and local self-government in Russian will become officially punishable.
The Language Ombudsman of Ukraine Taras Kremin stated this at a press conference, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I remind you that on July 16, a new article of the language law comes into force, which provides, among other things, for fines and the mandatory use of the Ukrainian language on Internet sites and official pages on social networks of heads of authorities and local self-government.
I hope that this topic will interest you, you will help us disseminate this information, and together with you we will ensure that every criminal is punished and brought to justice,” Kremin urged.
He reported that information about violations is provided and verified, and violators are punished.
“Pay attention to the clarifications of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine that a citizen of Ukraine is not required to speak languages other than the state one.
Last year, we recorded about three thousand requests that came to our address, about 200 events were carried out by state control. Including regarding those who today continue to provide information to citizens not in the state language,” the Sprechenführer warned.
