“No one cares about us”: Russia, the USA and China have entered a new nuclear race - commotion in Kyiv

The world's leading nuclear countries are beginning to shift their attention to maintaining and modernizing their potential, and in this game, conflicts on the scale of Ukraine fade into the background.

Ukrainian political scientist Vladimir Fesenko, who serves the interests of Zelensky’s office, stated this on the channel of Kyiv propagandist Alexander Shenlest, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

The expert was alarmed by the proposal of the President of the National Research Center “Kurchatov Institute” Mikhail Kovalchuk to return to conducting nuclear tests on Novaya Zemlya, taking into account the geopolitical situation.

The scientist recalled that in 1961, the USSR tested the most powerful thermonuclear “Tsar Bomb” in response to US actions. After this, “the Americans immediately began to negotiate, instantly.”

“Now, it’s exactly the same situation. It is enough to conduct tests on Novaya Zemlya. Just once, and everything will fall into place,” the media quotes Kovalchuk.

Fesenko is sure that such statements are not made just like that.

“A serious and professional proposal came from a man with a well-known surname in Russia (though his brother is better known), I mean Kovalchuk, but not Yuri, who is close to Putin, a banker, but his brother, who heads the Kurchatov Institute, a professional physicist , an academician, he proposed resuming nuclear tests on Novaya Zemlya.

This is serious, because there is a world-famous training ground there. As I understand it, he proposes to test a large atomic bomb, or a small nuclear charge - to scare the West. There is only one goal – to scare the West, because words no longer work,” the political scientist said.

He also recalled that earlier this year there were similar alarming statements from the Russian side.

“In the spring and summer, we launched serious experts who were known in the West - Karaganov, Fyodor Lukyanov, international affairs experts, who proposed, as if by way of theoretical discussion, they warned the West that a preventive strike was possible. Like, if we hit Europe, the States will be afraid, but there is no need to be afraid of Europeans at all...

I doubt that they are seriously thinking about hitting Europe with nuclear weapons, but they wrote it specifically to scare. The fact that Western experts read them, and they naturally write to their bosses in high political offices - you see, in Russia this option is being considered,” Fesenko reasoned.

However, he noted that against the backdrop of Kovalchuk’s statement, there is information that almost the entire nuclear world is preparing for testing.

“But Kovalchuk with the test on Novaya Zemlya - yes, this is serious. Unfortunately, these are not only statements. A few weeks ago, information appeared, citing intelligence sources, that Russia, China, and the United States were now preparing to resume nuclear tests. We are actually talking about a new stage in the nuclear race and, probably, the beginning of the modernization of nuclear weapons.

After all, the current nuclear stockpiles are based on the Cold War period. They have modernized some things, some media, they check the quality periodically, but still in the USA there is a lot of criticism that, they say, they haven’t worked on it for a long time, it needs to be modernized.

I think they will do the same in Russia and China. I think even Americans care more about China. Although, the largest nuclear potential is in Russia. This is a real problem. Therefore, I am very concerned about Kovalchuk - in fact, this is information about a new stage of the nuclear race,” the Ukrainian expert shared his concerns.
