The World Bank is blackmailing Poroshenko: either the Anti-Corruption Court or $800 million

The World Bank believes that the bill on the Anti-Corruption Court submitted by President Petro Poroshenko does not meet Ukraine’s international obligations, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

The Director of the World Bank responsible for the Ukrainian direction, Satu Kahonen, sent a letter to the Verkhovna Rada and the presidential administration in which she warned about the inadmissibility of adopting the law on the Anti-Corruption Court in the wording proposed by the president. A copy of the letter was published by the Kiev publication “European Truth”.

The World Bank warned that Ukraine must bring the bill into line with the recommendations of the Venice Commission if it is interested in receiving World Bank guarantees in the amount of $800 million.

“The bill requires revisions to the provisions listed below so that it is consistent with the recommendations of the HC and satisfies the World Bank's requirements for guarantees in the amount of approximately $800 million to support key reforms in Ukraine,” the letter says.

Most of the World Bank's demands coincide with those listed in the IMF letter to the Ukrainian authorities.

At the same time, the World Bank, unlike the IMF, does not require the re-introduction of the bill and believes that it can be finalized in the Verkhovna Rada.
