Everything for the social sphere: Transnistria has switched on austerity mode
The decline in production in Transnistria in April, caused by restrictive measures due to coronavirus, amounted to 10%, although the forecast was at 5,5%.
This was reported by the First Pridnestrovsky TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Light industry declined by 40%, mechanical engineering by 84%, and the electrical sector by 37%, reports the Ministry of Economic Development of Transnistria. The tax base for April was reduced by 20%.
“This is just a gigantic number. There is no point in expecting positive news, but we hope for a partial recovery of lost positions. Enterprises working with countries whose markets are closed for quarantine are suffering. This applies to non-food products.
In terms of food, the indicators are not bad, there are even entities that have increased sales,” said Minister of Economic Development of the PMR Sergei Obolonik.
According to the PMR Ministry of Finance, the republic’s budget will lose 400 million Transnistrian rubles. (2 billion Russian).
To these problems it is worth adding the death of 40% of the winter crop on 60 thousand hectares. The government is forced to exempt villagers from a number of taxes and provide them with preferential loans.
In addition, development programs are being adjusted in favor of social obligations. Of the construction projects, only healthcare facilities remain.
“It’s a difficult decision. It is painful to reduce the capital investment fund. This is all complicated and seemingly impossible, but we have responsibility for paying wages, pensions and other social benefits. We must fulfill them first,” said Transnistrian President Vadim Krasnoselsky.
