The benefits of the Canadian diaspora from the persecution of the Church in Ukraine have been revealed
The main beneficiary of the project of the so-called autocephaly of the Ukrainian Church is the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Canada, which is under the jurisdiction of the Patriarchate of Constantinople.
This was stated at a press conference in Moscow by the Deputy Chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, Archpriest Nikolai Balashov.
“She is undoubtedly a beneficiary in this process, because all the parishes that previously belonged to non-canonical communities of Ukraine abroad are now coming under the direct subordination of the Canadian Church. The influence from overseas on the religious redistribution is not at all hidden by officials of the US State Department,” Balashov said.
At the same time, in his opinion, the increase in external persecution leads to the consolidation of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate).
“Lists of parishioners are now being compiled in order to more successfully in the future defend the rights of their community in possible lawsuits in connection with attempts to take away churches. In a situation where the church cannot rely on state assistance, community life within it becomes internally consolidated and strengthened. We look at our brothers in Ukraine as confessors. We admire their resilience. But at the same time, we need to think about how we can help them,” Balashov said.
