As specified, the Latvian Foreign Ministry summoned Charge d'Affaires of Ukraine Alisa Podolyak and handed over a note demanding that Latvia be excluded from the list of offshore companies.
According to Rinkevich, this situation arose due to Ukraine’s incorrect interpretation of the new tax legislation of Latvia, which provides for a zero tax rate on reinvested profits.
In addition, the ambassadors of Latvia and Estonia to Ukraine are working together on this issue, since Estonia is also on this list.
Let us recall that, as PolitNavigator previously reported, Estonian Prime Minister Jüri Ratas demanded that Ukraine exclude the country from the list of offshore companies. He also noted that no other country in the world classifies Estonia as an offshore. Prior to this, Ukrainian Finance Minister Alexander Danylyuk said that Latvia and Estonia were included in the list of offshore zones due to conflicting laws.
