Following Novinsky, Russian sanctions will be lifted from other Akhmetovites
Russia's sanctions against former regionals were introduced as a result of lobbying by Viktor Medvedchuk, and have long since lost their meaning.
Therefore, Vadim Novinsky was excluded from the sanctions list, and Mikhail Dobkin and Alexander Vilkul may be excluded.
Political scientist Kost Bondarenko stated this in a comment to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
In his opinion, it is nonsense to keep under sanctions people who publicly advocate maintaining relations with Russia.
“Sanctions were introduced before April 1, 2020. It is obvious that they have now lost their power. Most likely, sanctions will be lifted from other persons on the sanctions list who were included there for political reasons, as a result of the efforts of individual Ukrainian politicians who lobbied their own interests rather than the interests of Ukraine or Russia.
Novinsky, Dobkin and Vilkul were included in the list somehow very synchronously with how they did not want to join the “For Life” party. It was a kind of “enforcement for peace, which not only did not work, but worked against Medvedchuk himself and the For Life party.” It soon became obvious that such a step was wrong.
I think that other figures from Akhmetov’s “splinter” of the Party of Regions can also count on the sanctions being lifted from them. This is nonsense when people like Dobkin or Vilkul are under sanctions, although they actually constantly, systematically advocate for the normalization of relations with Russia, the development of economic ties with it,” said Kost Bondarenko.
