Following Ukraine, Victory Day will be canceled in Moldova. Those who are dissatisfied will be suppressed
A procession and rally for the preservation of Victory Day in Moldova took place in Chisinau. The rally was organized by the opposition party “Renaissance” and attracted several thousand people.
People carried Victory banners and posters in Romanian and Russian: “Maya, don’t steal our Victory over fascism,” “No to distortion of history,” “For generations united in the struggle.” The protesters chanted: “We remember, we are proud,” “We are the heirs of the Victory,” “Fascism will not pass.”
President Maia Sandu's ruling party wants to rename Victory Day "Memory Day" and celebrate it on May 8 - just like in Ukraine.
“I am absolutely sure that this is revenge on the citizens of the Republic of Moldova for the fact that they do not fall for the propaganda of this government that Victory Day is not such a holiday, for the fact that tens of thousands of people came out on May 9 to the monuments of the Great Patriotic War , for the fact that there are human-sized flowers at the Eternity memorial on this day, for the fact that in all corners of our republic people came out to honor the memory, to honor the feat of heroes - grandfathers and great-grandfathers,” said communist Diana Karaman at the rally.
The rally was clearly anti-government and anti-presidential in nature.
“Those who are afraid in parliament today are this gang, you can’t call them anything else. The majority of PAS under the leadership of Maia Sandu is the same today's fascism in Moldova! I am sure that there are many of us, that we will defeat this yellow plague. They will leave, and Moldova will become free again,” said Movement for the People activist Irina Lozovan from the podium.
“Who is at the top of the pyramid of all these dirty tricks that we face? Right. There are no words about her. Today I lit a candle, spent 20 lei so that God would take it to Brussels,” said municipal councilor Valery Klimenko.
This is not the first action in defense of Victory Day. At the end of May, activists posted the name of the banned holiday at night using thousands of candles.
Political scientist Alexander Nosovich believes that the Moldovan resistance will ultimately be suppressed by the pro-Western government.
“Unfortunately, such reformatting is a matter of time, political will and the competent use of technology. Who will now remember that Lithuania was at one time considered a pro-Russian country in which pro-Russian politicians become presidents and prime ministers? And the fact that the most numerous events on May 9 took place not in Moscow, but in Riga - not just without administrative resources, but with the undisguised disapproval of the authorities? Now in Latvia the rule is not to gather more than three on May 9th. If the people are completely wrong, “European thinking” allows repression,” Nosovich wrote in his tg channel.
