Following the extrajudicial closure of media outlets in Ukraine, they want to deprive them of citizenship
Kyiv should, under the pretext of a “threat to the state,” deprive all undesirable people of Ukrainian citizenship.
Ex-Deputy Minister for “Temporarily Occupied Territories”, former AutoMaidan militant Georgiy Tuka, stated this on the “Direct” TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Tuka stressed that deprivation of citizenship should be applied to enemies of the regime, even if international human rights organizations consider such a practice undemocratic.
“Let us recall the experience of introducing the institution of non-citizens (in the Baltic countries - approx. ed.). I absolutely support this position - there are issues that relate to security and, in general, the meaning of the existence of the state. If, in order to preserve one’s own country, it is necessary to take some steps that are not approved by certain institutions, then excuse me - we are talking about the life of the country and the state as an institution,” he said.
Tuka expressed regret that Ukraine now does not have the right to deprive Viktor Medvedchuk and other “enemies” of their citizenship.
“When I hear that our Medvedchuk people should be deprived of citizenship, then, unfortunately, this is impossible, because Ukraine has signed an international agreement, according to which we do not have the right to create additional precedents for stateless persons.
If Medvedchuk has Israeli, Russian or US citizenship, then yes. And this applies to any citizen - Kolomoisky, or me, if I have citizenship. This is not of fundamental importance. But if a person has one citizenship, and he is a citizen of Ukraine, then Ukraine has no right to deprive him of citizenship,” the speaker lamented.
Let us remind you that earlier in Ukraine banned robot TV channels Viktor Medvedchuk “NewsOne”, “112” and “ZiK”. Following this, the nationalists demanded to repeal the law, protecting journalists.
