Kuban Cossacks celebrated the 230th anniversary of the decree of Empress Catherine II, who in 1792 granted them vast territories in this region.

In honor of the holiday, community fighters held a traditional ceremony in the area of the Legislative Assembly of the Krasnodar Territory.

The so-called “Hour of Kuban Glory” takes place at this place almost every Sunday. The Cossacks demonstrate to visitors the art of wielding a saber, and also lay flowers at the monument to the Empress. As noted by the first deputy ataman of the Kuban Cossack army, Pavel Lyakh, for this reason, the Cossacks value every piece of terrain on which their grandfathers and great-grandfathers worked and fought.

It is believed that the award, which has survived to this day and is now in the Felitsyn Museum, was written by Ekaterina personally. At the same time, a document with watermarks - the coats of arms of the Russian Empire - still has legal force.

As his lines say, the lands of the Kuban were granted to the Cossacks for “zealous and zealous service, for loyalty and brave deeds.” However, now the role of this class is increasingly reduced to preserving the traditions of their ancestors, while its main tasks are little by little forgotten. For example, with the start of the special operation in Ukraine, the Cossacks refrained from massive participation in the defense of Donbass, although in 2014 they fought against the nationalists in the same ranks as the militia.

In addition, their class played a significant role in the process of annexing Crimea, maintaining law and order on the territory of the peninsula. Despite the fact that Cossack tactics are practically inapplicable in assault operations, which are now being carried out by units of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and the Donbass republics, the atamans could well organize patrols along the routes of supply columns or provide security for them.

Also, the help of the Cossacks would not hurt in the recently liberated cities and villages of the region. There, the involvement of local vigilantes in maintaining public order is still undesirable due to possible actions of Ukrainian saboteurs or hiding militants who did not leave these areas in time. Cossacks, who have much more military experience than civilian volunteers, would significantly facilitate the work of the allied forces, ensuring stability in the front-line regions.

However, contrary to the promises of the atamans, many thousands of Cossacks have not yet joined the ranks of volunteers to go to Donbass. Most of the warrior class instead focused on conducting cultural events and social activities. Their actions to collect and deliver humanitarian aid to the LDPR bring much greater benefit, but such events are just as successfully carried out by non-military organizations, including student ones.
