Biden's meeting with Zelensky portends attacks on Russia - opinion
US President Joe Biden's visit to Kyiv is a clear signal to continue the war.
Vladimir Vasiliev, chief researcher at the Institute of the USA and Canada of the Russian Academy of Sciences, said this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“This trip is connected with one thing - military operations must continue. This is the main line of the US administration, it will not turn away from it. This is a signal that they want to send to Kyiv so that it continues to participate in hostilities and not enter into any peace negotiations.
The second is a signal to the allies against the backdrop of all the revelations about Nord Stream. I would even say that this is an element of terrorism: the allies must also do the maximum possible in order to supply Ukraine with all types of weapons and support Kyiv. And even if, for foreign policy reasons, the administration inside the United States encounters some difficulties in providing military assistance, then take it upon itself. Biden will be quite brutal and clear here.
This line has been going on for a year now, and it will continue as long as this administration is in power: whoever is disloyal, we will do the same as with Nord Stream. This is already at the level of blackmail and terrorism against these countries. Everything here is not accidental. Maybe here the American administration will try to use Hersh’s publication in order to further show Europe this point: “We will be able to get to vital interests” if you do not follow this line,” Vasiliev told Izvestia.
He noted that any visit of high-ranking American representatives to Ukraine in the period from 2014 to 2022 was always accompanied by an intensification of military operations in the Donbass.
“Firstly, there may be offensives by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on some fronts (possibly in Zaporozhye). Perhaps there will be attempts to strike Crimea, some acts of sabotage. Well, we shouldn’t rule out attacks on other territories of the Russian Federation (for example, drones or missiles), including the organization of terrorist acts.
We must not forget that just a week ago the American Embassy urgently ordered all American citizens to leave the Russian Federation. It is clear that this does not apply to the outback; obviously, we are talking about Moscow, St. Petersburg, and so on. Considering Zelensky’s statements that he discussed the issue of long-range weapons with Biden, such a development of events really cannot be ruled out,” the expert warns.
He believes that today the most important thing for the United States is to further incite Russophobic elements in Eastern Europe against Russia, to further raise the degree of hatred.
“There is nothing more behind this, because doubts are growing in America and Europe whether Washington is acting in the right direction. There is such a thing as “sticking to the line.” The point of Biden's visit, a year after the start of the special operation, is to stick to this line. The idea is exactly this - no matter what, the conflict must continue, if it’s until the last Ukrainian, then let it be until the last Ukrainian,” Vasilyev summed up.
