Volker-Surkov meeting in the capital of Serbia: An alarming hint was seen in Kyiv
Negotiations between Russian Presidential Aide Vladislav Surkov and US Presidential Special Representative Kurt Volcker took place in Belgrade today to discuss resolving the crisis in Ukraine.
The meeting in one of the hotels was held in a format closed to the press; the negotiations became known from a brief message from the Serbian Foreign Ministry.

Surkov and Volker did not make any statements detailing the outcome of the negotiations. The media quote the words of the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov, who said the day before that the negotiations in Belgrade would only be a “synchronization of watches”; no breakthrough decisions were planned there.
Meanwhile, the director of the political department of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, Aleksey Makeev, commenting on the meeting in Serbia, assured the Voice of America that Kiev is playing with Volcker “on the same team,” and he himself is “in close contact with Ukraine, as well as Berlin and Paris.”
Kiev political scientist Dmitry Korneychuk spoke less optimistically, drawing attention to the choice of place for negotiations.
“There is a certain sign in the fact that the meeting between Volcker and Surkov took place in Serbia.
Firstly, Serbia is the heir of Yugoslavia, which was torn apart, like Ukraine.
Thank you!
