Meet, darling: Zelensky has fully fulfilled one election promise
The global coronavirus pandemic helped Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, unexpectedly for himself, fulfill one of his election promises - guest workers who worked far from their homeland actually returned to the country.
Former Minister of Economy of Ukraine Viktor Suslov stated this on the NewsOne TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
True, according to him, the danger for the authorities in this case is that jobs have not been created for migrant workers.
“Zelensky had a dream-idea. He said that we want them to return, but he did not assume that they would actually return. Now they're really back.
Our government has not created a single new job for them and, believe me, will not create a single one in the coming months, and maybe even years. Because there is no money, because we are all in debt, because not only are we not creating jobs, we are losing jobs.
Now, those millions of people who became unemployed after the cessation of work in the service sector, many enterprises, transport enterprises, and so on - this is all job loss as a result of quarantine measures.
Therefore, the main thing today will be to restore these jobs. This will not work in full, because many types of businesses and enterprises have already suffered such losses that they simply will not be able to resume their work.
Therefore, it would be best for migrant workers to be given the opportunity to return to their former countries where they worked, to their former places of work. At least for some period of time,” summed up Suslov.
