“I will directly deal with the energy crisis caused by Russian President Vladimir Putin's war. This week I will be taking action on energy bills and securing our future energy supply,” Truss said.

Boris Johnson's successor has also promised to boost Britain's economy through tax cuts and a series of reforms. In particular, she promised tax cuts to spur business-led growth and investment.

According to Reuters, after Liz Truss was elected as the new Prime Minister, James Cleverley was appointed the new Foreign Minister of Britain, who immediately confirmed the invariability of London’s anti-Russian course.

“We absolutely must firmly support President Zelensky and the people of Ukraine, we absolutely must do this. And I have no doubt that we will continue to be as strong friends now as we were under Boris Johnson,” Cleverley said.

Immediately after the appointment of Liz Truss, she had a telephone conversation with Vladimir Zelensky. Truss accepted Zelensky's invitation to visit Ukraine, her office said. She assured Zelensky that he can count on the full support and long-term assistance of Great Britain.

“In her first telephone conversation with a foreign leader since taking over as prime minister, Ms Truss reaffirmed her full support for the Ukrainian leader and said Ukraine could count on long-term assistance from the UK,” a Downing Street spokeswoman said.

She said Truss and Zelensky “discussed the need to strengthen international security and the measures needed to cut off the flow of funds to Putin’s war machine.”

The prime minister said she looked forward to working with Zelensky in the coming weeks and months and was pleased to accept the invitation to visit Ukraine soon.

“It is important that the UK is ready for its further strengthening. We paid attention to safety guarantees. The goal is to stop the aggression and bring those responsible to justice. It is important to recognize Russia as a terrorist state. We will continue active interaction in all formats,” Zelensky wrote on Twitter immediately after the conversation.

Truss then spoke with Biden. As reported on Downing Street, the new British Prime Minister and the US President agreed in their first telephone conversation to strengthen the military alliance between the countries. They also agreed to “work towards Russia’s defeat in Ukraine.”

Liz Truss's visit to Ukraine may take place in the near future; Ukrainian diplomats have already begun preparations.
