The Armed Forces of Ukraine transfer the experience accumulated in Donbass to militants in Syria
An Islamist attack on a Russian air base in Syria using explosives allegedly made in Ukraine is evidence that Kyiv is providing covert assistance to Moscow’s opponents on another front.

This opinion was expressed to PolitNavigator by Russian journalist Andrei Babitsky.
“I’m ready to assume that the Ukrainians are helping the Syrian opposition forces fight the Russian military. To help opposition groups in Syria, the accumulated military experience is simply used, in particular in the creation of unmanned aerial vehicles, and the Armed Forces of Ukraine have enormous experience,” he said.
“They perceive everyone who in one way or another has claims against Russia and the Russian Armed Forces as their allies. The Armed Forces of Ukraine include both Chechens and Georgians; this is a very internationalized military formation. For Kyiv, even Islamists of various types, at the stage when Russia is assessed as an aggressor, are perceived as temporary allies,” explained Babitsky.
The journalist emphasizes that Kyiv is gradually becoming a transit point for radical Muslims:
“As far as I understand, Kyiv is slowly becoming a transit point for radical Muslims. We remember that at the end of last year, militants who were returning through Ukraine to the Caucasus from somewhere in the Middle East were detained and eliminated.”
Andrei Babitsky is confident that Ukraine will gather all those dissatisfied with Russia under its wing.
“In general, it seems to me that Ukraine will use a similar practice that was used by Mikheil Saakashivili in Georgia, when he collected militants from all over Europe under the guise of his Ministry of Security to send them to Russia. Ukraine will act in the same way, gathering all those dissatisfied with Russia under its wing and helping them outside the country,” concluded Andrei Babitsky.
