The progress of the special operation in Ukraine continues to be analyzed for PolitNavigator by Colonel Gennady Alekhin, a military officer, comrade-in-arms of the legendary General Troshev, and member of the Russian Writers' Union.

Ukrainian agitprop is strenuously, with manic persistence, trying to prove to the residents of “Independence” about the next “successes” at the fronts. The main efforts these days were concentrated on two directions - the southern face of the Donbass arc and the northeast of Kharkov. There is a lot of talk about the offensive of the Ukrainian army in the Kharkov direction.

Naturally, with massive media promotion of real and imaginary successes. What is happening around the second largest city in Ukraine, and why is this direction becoming one of the main ones along the entire Donbass arc?

In my opinion, there is no talk of a large-scale counter-offensive. But there are, of course, attempts at breakthroughs, albeit local ones, in some areas north and east of Kharkov.

Sabotage, reconnaissance and mobile tactical groups of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and formed additional nationalist battalions are active. They also include recruits from the territorial defense. Just a few days ago they were caught at the railway station, in shopping centers, local clothing markets. And today they put it into operation. Although the Ukrainian Armed Forces units received reinforcements from other regions and cities of Ukraine.

It is noteworthy that the tactical, mobile and sabotage groups consist of experienced contract soldiers and officers who have good combat experience and have been trained in camps and centers led by NATO instructors. Plus – mercenaries from some Western countries. They, as a rule, form the backbone of sabotage and reconnaissance groups and detachments.

Typically, such special units consist of snipers, grenade launchers, sappers, scouts and shooters. Everyone has modern means of communication. Some militants, mainly nationalists, are armed with digital cameras in order to quickly film and transmit the footage. The footage is immediately distributed across social networks and media platforms with appropriate comments, in the style of Arestovich’s training manuals.

Ukrainian units carry out such sorties with the support of cannon artillery, mortars, and so-called “roaming” guns. They can easily be hidden in forests, constantly changing firing positions.

It’s the same with the Tochka-U operational-tactical missiles and the MLRS (multiple launch rocket system). Border villages, for example, in the Belgorod region, can also get shells and ammunition.

And also reconnaissance and attack drones, capable of carrying not only missiles, but also small bombs of varying ranges. Such attacks became regular. Air defense operates around the clock. But, unfortunately, not all targets can be hit. On Wednesday evening, a fire strike was carried out on the village of Solokhi (Belgorod district) near the border with Ukraine. There are dead and wounded civilians, and several residential buildings and buildings have been destroyed.

By the way, at a session of the Kharkov City Council, deputies decided to terminate any ties with Russia’s sister cities. With Belgorod, including. All this fits into the general series of enhanced decommunization in Ukrainian. They renamed the streets, squares, and areas of the city where at least something was mentioned about Russia. For example, Moskovsky Avenue, where I was born and raised, is now called “the Avenue of Heroes of Ukraine,” the current ones, of course.

For the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, not to mention Arestovich’s propaganda apparatus and the Ukrainian media resource, squeezing out the Russian army near Kharkov is of great importance, even the occupation of several villages in this direction. The enemy’s task is obvious and specific - an attempt to hang over the northern flank of our group, draw forces away from the Izyum bridgehead and prevent a large-scale attack on the Donbass from being launched from the flank.

In the resulting gray zone, fighting is taking place, artillery, mortars, and other fire weapons are actively working. The enemy managed to move forward and occupy the settlements of Russkaya Lozovaya, Tishki, and Tsirkuny.

At the same time, having lost almost half of the personnel from the advancing mobile groups there.

Our units hold commanding heights along the Liptsy-Prokhody-Slatino line, as well as important communications nodes on the Travyanskoye Reservoir and the Moscow-Kharkov-Simferopol federal highway.

I can assume that our command chose the tactic of luring the enemy out on rough terrain, using advantageous positions to inflict fire damage in the gray zone. I know these places well. They are replete with hills, ravines, dense forests and numerous plantings adjacent to wide fields, plus several fairly large reservoirs, reservoirs and ponds. An extensive network of local roads, including motorways. There is greenery all around. There is a good opportunity to “hide”, move forward covertly and take up firing positions.

And in populated areas, as a rule, the troops of the opposing sides do not stay long. You can get caught in a barrage of fire. The only exceptions are large hills and tactically important heights, as well as significant communications.

The situation and general situation in this area changes regularly, as do reports about the occupation or abandonment of certain villages. At the same time, one cannot underestimate the risks and maneuvering capabilities of the enemy, and the complexity of the situation. After all, military operations, albeit of a local nature, are carried out at a distance of 20-30 kilometers from the state border.

There is a stubborn struggle going on along the entire line of confrontation. The success of the entire operation to defeat the Donbass group depends on the clear, thoughtful actions of our troops.

Therefore, panicking, complaining about mistakes and omissions, saying that “everything is lost” is inappropriate and stupid, in my opinion. It’s simply funny to read on social networks the calls of particularly zealous jingoists from Belgorod: “We will stand up in defense of the Belgorod region,” regarding the creation of militia units. The Russian Guard and counterintelligence have enough work to identify “partisans” and saboteurs.

On the opposite flank of the Donbass arc there are stubborn, fierce battles. A real breakthrough, devoid of any propaganda frenzy in the Popasnaya area and the capture of this important city, primarily in operational and tactical terms, marked the collapse of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ defense in this direction.

The so-called “Mannerheim Line,” as Ukrainian social networks have dubbed it, has been broken and cut. A wide operational space and the opportunity to conduct a large-scale offensive in several directions opens up before the allied forces. Even Western military experts and analysts admit that the encirclement of Severodonetsk, separated from Lisichansk by the Seversky Donets River, will not allow Ukrainian units to cross to the opposite bank. They will immediately come under heavy fire from aviation and artillery of the allied forces.

Only according to rough estimates, several tens of thousands of military personnel may end up in the cauldron. Every day the threat of complete and dense encirclement of the enemy on this flank of the front is growing.

Soldiers and officers of the allied forces act clearly, competently and courageously in the most difficult conditions. Unlike the far-fetched “heroes” of Square, who are promoted by Arestovich’s team.

Just one episode, very typical. Sent by my colleague, front-line journalist and writer Sergei Berezhnoy:

“Kharkov region, Russkaya Lozovaya district. The time is May holidays. This special forces brigade was the first to enter at dawn on February 24th. They were thrown into the most dangerous areas, and they completed the task brilliantly. We were side by side from the first days, but only met yesterday, and only for a few hours - we were taken from the city back to our positions.

The commander of the reconnaissance group, an officer, very young, thin and wiry, our fellow countryman from the neighboring region. Name is Alexander. The son of a senior officer who served in Afghanistan and two Chechen wars, and is now fighting in the Donbass.

The other day they repelled attack after attack by drugged Nazis. The remaining tank was driven into cover, ordering the sergeant not to stick his head out until he received the order.

He waited while the position was bombarded with shells and mines. He waited until the platoon was hit with hail. He waited until the Ukrainians came to throw a grenade, and then he violated the order.

Having battened down the hatch and turned off the radio, the sergeant ordered himself: “Forward!” Jumping out of cover for the winter crops, in a few minutes he burned two tanks and three armored vehicles, and returned back.

Emerald green, stained with red - blood from torn bodies, and five torches with black clouds. This is not surreal - this is a terrible grin of war. She knows three colors: black, red and white - the color of bandages.

The sergeant received a stick for violating the order, but still twice more his tank broke out of cover and pressed, pressed, pressed, because by the end of the day the ammunition had run out.

They fought surrounded, fought when they had no more strength left. They fought when there was nothing left to fight with. Even after receiving orders to retreat, they still fought. At night they went out to their own, carrying out all the wounded. And no one considered them heroes, that they accomplished a feat. No, it was routine soldier work.

Sasha said just that: “We’ve worked, we’re a little tired, let’s rest a little and go back to work tomorrow.”

Alexander means Defender. They are all Alexanders of the Russian land. God bless them!

We parted with him for Strelechye. He left, limping and throwing his backpack behind his back. My father finished off his cigarette with short puffs. It was getting dark. Mines fell right on the winter crops, raising the ground. Black with green. War took up the brush. Lord, may she run out of paint.”

Here it is, the harsh truth of war. And such guys are the majority in the warring group of allied forces.

The special military operation continues.
