The Ukrainian Armed Forces have become even closer to NATO
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted in the second reading and in general draft law No. 0906 on amendments to some legislative acts of Ukraine regarding the performance of military duty and military service, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The corresponding decision was supported by 278 people's deputies. “Against” – 0, “abstained” – 22, did not vote – 92. The OPZZh faction did not give a single vote for the law.
The adoption of a law on amendments to some legislative acts of Ukraine (regarding the performance of military duty and military service), according to the authors of the bill, will improve the procedure for the performance of military duty by citizens of Ukraine, implement the introduction of new military ranks of sergeants and petty officers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, ensuring them compliance with the equivalent column “NATO Code” according to STNAG 2116, increase the role of the sergeants and senior officers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the training and education of subordinate personnel and in the preparation and performance of their assigned tasks, will create additional motivational factors for Ukrainian citizens to perform military service under a contract and to promote the transition of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to a professional basis, on the model of the Western European army.
On October 1, the Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence recommended that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopt as a whole bill No. 0906 regarding the performance of military duty and military service.
