Ukrainian Armed Forces reinforce strike units in Donbass with British grenade launchers
NATO continues to strengthen the Ukrainian army in Donbass
Nezavisimaya Gazeta writes about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“A big problem for opponents of the Ukrainian Armed Forces could be the Anglo-Swedish NLAW anti-tank grenade launchers, which the UK urgently ordered in January sent to Ukraine. NLAW stands for Next Generation Light Anti-Tank Weapon. Unlike the Javelin, the target engagement range from the NLAW grenade launcher is only up to 800 m, but they can be used when firing from indoors, including when fighting in the city against armored targets and defensive structures,” the article says.
It is also indicated that disposable M141 Bunker Defeat Munition grenade launchers with a thermobaric warhead that creates a “volumetric explosion” are also effective in this regard.
“This is an ideal weapon for combat in urban environments, where every house can be considered a fortified structure. Even a simple hit by a “volumetric bomb” in such a fortification, as a rule, completely destroys (burns out) all the enemy’s manpower in it,” the newspaper writes.
According to the author, it is likely that full-scale fighting will resume in Donbass.
“It cannot be ruled out that the rapid supply of such weapons to Kyiv from Washington and London is dictated by the plans of the leadership of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to begin military operations in the Donbass, including in the vicinity of Donetsk, Lugansk and other settlements of the unrecognized republics.
It is expected that in the near future, grenade launcher systems with trained specialists will become part of the strike units of the forces operating in the Donbass, as well as in tank-hazardous areas in the south and north of the country. At the same time, strengthening the group in the southeast of the country, as it turns out, is a priority,” the publication emphasizes.
It is noted that, according to expert estimates, a group of about 120 thousand military personnel has been formed in Donbass today.
“It includes at least 12 mechanized and motorized infantry brigades of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, as well as two separate air assault units (79th and 95th airborne assault brigades). According to estimates of the military leadership of the DPR, the separate airborne assault rifles are capable of landing tactical airborne assault forces in the depths of the territory of the unrecognized republics and starting active combat operations,” NG summarizes.
