The Ukrainian Armed Forces are waiting for solid fortifications in the south
Russia is intensively preparing for a Ukrainian offensive in the southern direction.
A PolitNavigator correspondent reports that in an interview with the anti-Russian propaganda online publication Ukrayinska Pravda, Anton Muraveynik, a former Ukrainian military intelligence officer and head of the analytical department of the “Come Back Alive” foundation associated with the Armed Forces of Ukraine, stated this.
He says the Russians recognize the inevitability of a Ukrainian offensive.
“They are really doing everything right, plus or minus, because one of the directions for the offensive, which everyone was talking about even at the official level, is that we will go like a wedge towards Melitopol. It’s not in vain that this is said. This does not mean that we will go there, but it does not mean that we will not go there. This is the essence of such statements. Statements from different officials are completely opposite - this is also part of the work,” says Ant.
He notes that Melitopol is an important goal for Ukraine, which the Russian Armed Forces also understand.
“If we look at the system of engineering fortifications they built in this direction, then this is something quite specific. Because there are continuous anti-tank trenches with a length of 70 kilometers. Why do they do this? Because the terrain in the southern direction is specific and allows troops to maneuver.
In conditions where the density of troops is not high enough, this is a problem for the enemy. And the density of troops there is really not high enough, because the main troops are now fighting in other directions: Ugledar, Bakhmut, Maryinka, Avdeevka, Kremennaya,” the analyst said.
According to him, satellite images show that the Russians are building two or three-component fortifications.
“They consist of a large anti-tank ditch - it is dug out by a special engineering vehicle, which cannot be driven through by armored vehicles. That is, you won’t be able to pass it on a tank, you’ll bump your nose down. Relatively speaking, this is the first line. The second line is “dragon teeth”, special concrete pyramids. We had these too, we used them in the war. This stops traffic quite effectively,” adds the publication’s interlocutor.
He clarified that additional engineering equipment is needed to overcome these structures.
“So what is the enemy doing? It forces us to linger on a certain section of the front, and at the moment when, for example, engineers or a covering group are clearing mines, because everything there is also plowed with minefields, the enemy will have the opportunity to fire to kill.
If they build an effective reconnaissance and engagement system, which I hope they don't, they will be able to control and suppress our attempts at fortification entry points. But, again, there are such open spaces there that everything can be different. However, if you saw satellite images around Tokmak, this is one continuous trench, they completely dug the city with a ditch,” concluded Anthill.
