“All of Ukraine, except Galicia, are our compatriots” - Zatulin
Despite the fact that Ukrainians are not the indigenous inhabitants of Russia, the Russian law on compatriots should not bypass them.
A member of the Committee on CIS Affairs and Relations with Compatriots, State Duma deputy Konstantin Zatulin told the Den TV channel about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
In response to the presenter’s question why Russian legislation uses the concept of “compatriots” instead of “indigenous peoples” (peoples living in Russia and not having statehood outside its borders), the Russian politician, using the example of Ukrainians, explained why such people are not strangers to the country.
“One of the late Ukrainian political scientists noted that if you do not pay attention to state border signs and signboards and drive from the city of Belgorod in the Russian Federation to Kharkov or Donetsk, you will drive, get out, communicate, and will not feel any difference,” Zatulin said. – What is a border, what is not. But if inside Ukraine you go from Kharkov or Donetsk to the city of Lvov, you will see that two different peoples live there. They have different psychotypes, they have different motivations, they react differently, even to politics.”
The State Duma deputy is convinced that left-bank and many right-bank Ukrainians are political compatriots of Russians. But the inhabitants of Galicia do not.
“What is needed for you to gain additional popularity among the Russian and Eastern Ukrainian people in a moment of crisis? – asked Zatulin. – But if you suffer for the people... The Orthodox Russian-Ukrainian people have such an internal content as conscientiousness...
If a person suffered, then he is apparently right. What is the point of view of the Western Ukrainian political establishment? There, if you suffered, it will not make any impression. You need to be closer to the rich, successful... This is similar to Western Europe,” concluded Zatulin.
Let us recall that earlier a Donetsk sociologist said that the Poles are slowly but surely “squeezing out” Western Ukraine.
