At the same time, at a press conference, the commander of the new brigade, Lieutenant Colonel Vasily Zubanich, made a sensational statement that “the purpose of creating the 10th mountain assault brigade is to protect the region from theoretically possible territorial encroachments by Romania.”
“Kiev does not want to comment on Vasily Zubanich’s words about a theoretically possible threat from EU member countries,” the newspaper writes. – Unofficially, they say that in both Romania and Hungary there are political forces that, at the time of the annexation of Crimea, declared their claims to Ukrainian lands. Last spring, a representative of the Hungarian delegation to PACE caused a stir with a statement that Ukraine “is an artificial state,” which unfairly included Transcarpathia, which previously belonged to Hungary.
Co-chairman of the Ukrainian public initiative “Right Cause” Dmitry Snegirev, quoted by NG, is sounding the alarm on this matter.
“Hungary’s territorial claims against Ukraine could result in tragic events,” he believes. – The situation is artificially aggravated, preconditions are being created for the emergence of the so-called “Carpathian Basin” on the political arena.
NG sources consider threats of this kind to be justified not only from Hungary, but also from Romania.
“Both Hungary and Romania issued their passports to residents of Western Ukraine,” informs the newspaper’s anonymous interlocutor. – Although dual citizenship is prohibited in Ukraine. We carried out work... About four years ago, residents of Chernivtsi discovered that the entire city was plastered with leaflets “Aici e Romania” - “Romania is here.”
In turn, the head of the International Institute of Democracies, Sergei Taran, believes that today there is no danger of creating new hot spots in Ukraine, although he admits the development of a negative scenario in this direction.
“There is a hybrid war on our territory,” says Taran, quoted by the publication. “And it is still unknown how it will develop, where and in what form the blow may come.” A year and a half ago, we already saw how anti-Ukrainian forces in the Russian Federation find a common language with the marginalized in the EU countries. This could happen again. We need to be prepared."
