Vyatrovich: “Rus - Ukraine will work for Putin
Renaming Ukraine to “Rus-Ukraine”, which suggested by the head's adviser office of President Vladimir Arestovich, will lead to foreigners perceiving the country as part of Russia due to translation difficulties.
The former director of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance, Verkhovna Rada deputy Vladimir Vyatrovich stated this on air on the ICTV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Vyatrovich, this renaming is beneficial only to Russia and will harm Ukraine.
“It is obvious that renaming the country in any case will be perceived by our neighbors as a bad joke. Renaming the country will be perceived as the country itself being frivolous. I am already silent about the fact that an attempt to translate this new name “Rus-Ukraine” in any language will lead to the fact that whether in Russian, English or French, German, Ukraine will be perceived as part of Russia. Russian Ukraine is approximately how this name will sound in English. “Russiche-Ukraine” is how the name will sound in German,” Vyatrovich worries.
“This is actually what Vladimir Putin demands. That is, an attempt to intercept the Russian heritage, which is actually very important for Ukrainian nation-building, state building, which Mr. Arestovich proposes, on the contrary, leads to the fact that we are breaking the Ukrainian national identity,” Vyatrovych said.
