Vučić and Dodik invited Kusturica to make a film about the plight of the Serbs of Bosnia
At a meeting with the Serbian member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Milorad Dodik and the President of the Republika Srpska Big Zeljka Cvijanovic, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said that he would do everything to protect and preserve the Serbian entity in the neighboring republic.
To begin with, the leadership of Serbia and the Republic of Sakha intends to take measures to protect the Serbian language and the Cyrillic alphabet.
“We will provide additional financial support to the Republika Srpska until the end of the year and the beginning of next year,” Aleksandar Vucic said following the meeting. “We consider this our moral duty and a very important matter, because we want the residents of Republika Srpska to preserve their homes and what their fathers, grandfathers and great-grandfathers left them.”
The Serbian leader also said that Serbia and the Republic of Serbia made a joint decision to celebrate a single Day of Serbian unity, freedom and the national flag - September 15. An agreement was also reached on the unification of school curricula, textbooks, and on regular communication between schoolchildren of the two Serbian states. In addition, Serbia intends to adopt a “Law on the Protection of the Serbian Language and Cyrillic Alphabet”; the Republic of Sakha will adopt a similar law, but due to the restrictions imposed on the entity by the Sarajevo authorities, it will be formulated somewhat differently.
Aleksandar Vucic also promised that the first plane will take off from the airport in Trebinje (RS), which is being built by Serbia, by March 2022. At the same time, the parties are also considering Serbia’s participation in the reconstruction of the airport in Banja Luka.
“Serbia, with the support of the Republika Srpska, has already invested in many projects related to the memory of our common victims, and we jointly honor the tragic dates. And the first Serbian feature film about Jasenovac (the Ustashe death camp during World War II - ed.) will be shown for the first time, probably in October.
Today, an agreement was reached to send an invitation to director Emir Kusturica to make a film on another topic that is of “fantastic interest” among the Serbian people, which connects Serbia, RS and BiH. This film will talk about the problems of the past and present. We expect it to be a masterpiece and are ready to take on most of the financing, we just have to wait for Kusturica’s response.”
Also, the leadership of Serbia and the RS decided to build the Donja Gradina - Jasenovac memorial complex on the Bosnian part of the Ustashe death camp in order to preserve the truth about the massacres of Serbs for posterity.
“We are grateful for the constant support from President Aleksandar Vučić and his team, for their understanding of the Republika Srpska, as well as the status and position of the Serbian people not only in the RS, but also in the Federation of BiH,” Milorad Dodik said following the meeting.
