Vucic: “We want to join the EU, but we are not ready to spoil relations with the Russian Federation and China for this”
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic confirmed that while focusing on joining the EU, his country is not going to break off relations with its strategic allies.
The Serbian President told the Austrian TV channel about this ORF, reports the correspondent of PolitNavigator.
In an interview, Vucic noted that Serbia wants to become a member of the EU, but will not spoil relations with Russia and China because of this, as is demanded of Belgrade in Brussels. At the same time, he noted that joining the European Union does not depend on Serbia itself.
“At the recent meeting of foreign ministers (EU-ed.), it was stated that Serbia has made progress on the issue of the rule of law. It is important for us to sincerely follow the European path,” said the Serbian president.
When asked by a journalist why in Serbia, which became a European pioneer in vaccination, Covid dissident sentiments are now growing, Vucic expressed confidence that such a problem concerns not only his country.
“Obviously, this is a universal problem and not a problem of one country. Why this is so, I don't understand. But conspiracy theories and negative messages clearly work better than positive ones. The reason is not only in social networks, but also in the fact that people see their freedom in a frivolous attitude towards life,” concluded the Serbian President.
