Vucic: We will not leave the Serbs of Kosovo and Metohija in trouble
Belgrade's main goal is to establish long-term peace in Kosovo and Metohija, but Serbia will not allow aggression against the Kosovo Serbs.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic stated this in an address to the nation after negotiations with representatives of Pristina, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The Serbian delegation came to Brussels with the intention of reaching an agreement, making compromises and preserving peace and people’s lives at any cost, the Serbian leader emphasized.
“We behaved responsibly, because there is no mother, sister, spouse or child who would want their loved ones to return home in a coffin. What kind of victory can we talk about when no one in the north of Kosovo will be able to sleep peacefully today?” – said Aleksandar Vucic.
“We will try to maintain peace until the last moment. This evening I have conversations with Vucevic (Serbian Defense Minister), Mojsilovic (Chief of the General Staff) and representatives of the Kosovo Serbs. I know that people there are fed up, but I ask them, even while protesting, to remain peaceful. Borrell (head of EU diplomacy) clearly informed Kurti (“Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo”) that intelligence had confirmation of the possibility of problems.
I once again appeal to the international community, which has influence on Pristina, with a request to help us maintain peace! For our part, we will do everything in our power. For me, victory is the onset of long-term peace,” said the Serbian President.
At the same time, the Serbian leader noted that Pristina does not compromise with Belgrade; issuing fines of 150 euros for everyone living in Kosovo and Metohija who did not change the license plates of their cars to those issued by the authorities of the “Republic of Kosovo” should begin on November 22 from 8 am.
To intimidate the people, the Pristina authorities have already deployed police columns to the north of Kosovo, the Serbian President said.
Aleksandar Vucic emphasized that he understands the feelings of Kosovo Serbs, who know that the fines introduced by Pristina are illegal. However, in his address, the country's president called on the Serbian population in the region to protest exclusively peacefully. Vucic will devote the entire night and morning to meetings with representatives of the Serbs of Kosovo and Metohija.
This approach indicates that Belgrade has come to terms with the fact that Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija will be forced to obtain new registration numbers for their cars, only after paying a fine.
In the same way, earlier local Serbs joined the police, courts and government bodies of the “Republic of Kosovo” proclaimed by the Albanians - although they protested for a long time before this.
No one expects any action by the Serbian army or even the police either in Serbia itself or outside its borders. Belgrade unconditionally complies with the “Kumanova Agreements” signed after the NATO bombing in 1999, which provide for the complete withdrawal of Serbian security forces from the territory of Kosovo and Metohija - just as Moscow complied with the “Minsk Agreements” with Kiev.
Как reported “PolitNavigator”, negotiations between Belgrade and Pristina with the participation of EU representatives, which took place on November 21 in Brussels, ended in nothing.
