Vucic found mutual understanding and reached out to the “Austro-Hungarians”
The war in the neighboring country threatens not only economically, therefore everything possible must be done to achieve peace in Ukraine.
This was stated by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban at the second trilateral summit of the leaders of Austria, Hungary and Serbia, which took place in Belgrade, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“There is a war going on in our neighborhood, which affects us not only economically. If there is a war in a neighboring country, you are not safe either, because Polish citizens died on Polish soil. Also, oil supplies through Ukraine to Hungary were interrupted yesterday, although I hope that they will be restored during this day (already restored - ed.).
When you and your country are in danger, you must try to eliminate this danger - this means that we want peace, and we must do everything possible to achieve peace [in Ukraine],” Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said at a joint press conference with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer.
The press conference took place after the second trilateral meeting of the leaders of Austria, Hungary and Serbia, which took place on November 16 in Belgrade.
Orbán also emphasized that Serbia and Hungary have a common destiny.
“We share a common destiny for good and evil, and we help each other when someone needs help. This is not a political issue, it is a matter of survival instinct. We must cooperate to overcome all challenges to our common destiny. I am grateful to President Vučić for being Hungary’s best Serbian partner,” Orbán said.
In turn, Aleksandar Vucic thanked Viktor Orban for supporting Serbia.
“It would be difficult for us to survive this winter if it were not for the understanding of Viktor Orbán. Thanks to him, I want to say this to all citizens of Serbia, it would be difficult for us to survive the winter if we could not store our gas in Hungarian storage facilities. We want you to know that you have gratitude from all of us,” said the Serbian President.
As is known, most of the gas consumed in Serbia is supplied by Russia through the Turkish Stream and Balkan Stream gas pipelines.
Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer, in turn, focused on the agreement signed at the trilateral meeting on combating illegal migration.
“I am grateful to both Serbia and Hungary that for the first time we will launch a project to deport migrants illegally staying in Serbia. I proposed this platform as Austrian Interior Minister and will make it available to Serbia,” Nehamer said.
He also stressed that Austria supports the accession of Serbia and other Western Balkan countries to the European Union, while Austrian companies are among the largest investors in Serbia.
Как reported "PolitNavigator", on October 3, Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic held the first trilateral meeting in Budapest, the main topic of which was energy security in the region.
