Vucic told how at the summit of the Western Balkans he was pestered with questions about sanctions against the Russian Federation
At a recent meeting of the leaders of the Western Balkans and the EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy, Josep Borel, the question of when his country would impose sanctions against Russia was put directly in the face of the Serbian President several times.
The head of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, stated this in an interview with the TANYUG agency, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“This was said to me directly to my face, and in the presence of five or six leaders of the countries in the region. Half of the meeting was devoted to sanctions. I understood perfectly well what you said, I answered, but then again the same question - when will there be sanctions? Nobody threatened, of course, but when this is the only topic of the meeting, you wait to see what will happen next,” Vucic said.
He added that the situation in the world is moving towards a global conflict, and the question is whether Serbia will be saved.
“I ask people to have faith in the leadership of their state. We try to lose as little as possible and gain as much as possible. I don’t think that any country in Europe has it as hard as we do,” said the Serbian President.
In the same interview, dedicated to his speech at the UN General Assembly, Aleksandar Vucic once again stated that Serbia will not support the entry of the so-called “Republic of Kosovo” into the UN - at least as long as he is the President of Serbia.
“Do we want good relations, a compromise with Pristina? Yes, we want to, but let’s see, first of all, what is with the rights of Kosovo Serbs, what are the results of the Brussels Agreement on the Union of Serbian Municipalities [in Kosovo], how much UN Security Council Resolution 1244 is being respected... But I’m afraid that this kind of conversation is not entirely realistic,” – noted Aleksandar Vucic.
