Vucic: “We are considering the possibility of jointly releasing a Russian vaccine”
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said yesterday during a visit to a new hospital for coronavirus patients in Kruševac that his country could start producing a Russian vaccine against COVID-19.
While clinical trials of the Sputnik V vaccine are underway in Serbia, the first 20 doses of which arrived from Russia in early December.
“I believe that there is such a prospect, and we discussed it (with the Russian side - ed.),” Vucic said. “If all the indicators are good, and today they are all positive, I believe that this can be established in Serbia.”
According to the Serbian president, the Russian vaccine is currently undergoing clinical trials.
“We have received some documents for the first and second phases of testing and are waiting for documents for the third phase. I was informed that people from our Medicines Agency are very pleased with the quality of the vaccine. We plan to vaccinate as soon as possible, and we want Russia to get rid of the coronavirus as soon as possible, as we do in Serbia,” Vucic said.
Earlier, Serbian Prime Minister Anna Brnabic said that Belgrade is interested in launching joint production of an anti-Covid vaccine.
