Vucic: “Taking everything from the Serbs and giving it to the Albanians is not a compromise”
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic denied statements by Kosovo “Prime Minister” Avdula Hoti that a final agreement between Belgrade and Pristina, implying mutual recognition, is being prepared in Brussels.
The Serbian leader said that he was ready to discuss only the issues of missing persons, the return of Serbian repatriates and the economy.
“I was surprised by this statement, which no one in Brussels denied,” Vucic commented on the situation. “But if someone thinks that Serbia will be a whipping boy, and every single day he will repeat that we just need to recognize the independence of Kosovo, and we will not get anything for it, then I think that this is a very wrong path, which will lead us nowhere."
According to Vucic, Serbia's policy is to preserve peace and stability for its citizens and the entire region, and that is why the country agreed to participate in the EU-led dialogue in order to resolve centuries-old problems in the interests of Serbs and Albanians.
The Serbian President said that he is ready to open the archives of the Yugoslav intelligence services, but only if the Kosovo Liberation Army (UCK) does the same, since it is very important that all families of the missing achieve justice. He is also ready to discuss the issue of creating the Commonwealth of Serbian Communities of Kosovo, which has been hanging since 2013 and sabotaged by Pristina.
“It is necessary that all refugees return, today the repatriation rates in Kosovo and Metohija are the lowest in the world - only 1,9% Belgrade is absolutely interested in economic negotiations to find a way for absolutely free movement of goods, services, capital and people... But a compromise solution can only be reached after a long and complex process of difficult negotiations. The compromise is not to take everything away from the Serbs and give it to the Albanians,” Vucic added.
In response to Avdula Hoti’s constant assertions that he checks all the terms of the negotiations with the “Constitution of Kosovo,” the Serbian President replied that this document is completely unimportant to him, and if all the terms of the negotiations must be checked against it, then there is nothing to even talk about.
