The introduction of military registration of women will spur emigration from Ukraine
An attempt to introduce military registration for women in Ukraine caused a scandal in society, and now the authorities are trying to hush it up by reducing the list of professions subject to registration. However, people are already scared, and entire families will leave to work abroad.
Political expert Alexandra Reshmedilova stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“During this time (since the list was published) there have been several statements that the list of professions could be reduced literally to professions that are already liable for military service - doctors, cooks. There are first concessions. The authorities are trying, if not to silence this issue, then not to touch it - “maybe it will resolve.” It is unlikely to dissipate - few initiatives have provoked such heated discussion.
For now, there is hope that they will try to write off this first option as a mistake, an oversight. It will be extremely difficult to explain to society (otherwise) so that it is understandable and does not cause a barrage of negativity,” Reshmedilova said.
The reaction of society shows that people took the initiative very painfully, the expert noted.
“The petition (against the bill) was registered in a matter of days and hours, and received many votes. We see that the news is really resonant. Journalists did not let them forget about this topic, it really became one of the top news,” said Reshmedilova.
The threat of being drafted into the army has become another reason why women are leaving Ukraine.
"What consequences? Everything that is not clear is scary. Previously, the solution for young people was to leave to sit out in a quiet place - mothers hid their sons. Last year was abnormal in terms of the number of labor migration. I think this year will be no less. Most likely, they will leave in couples and families. Even if there is a lot of explanatory work going on now,” said Alexandra Reshmedilova.
