“Introduction of troops “to protect the Hungarian population”: forecast from deputy Zelensky
In the event of internal instability in Ukraine, Budapest may send troops to Transcarpathia under the pretext of protecting the Hungarians living there.
Verkhovna Rada deputy, member of the Servant of the People presidential faction Maxim Buzhansky stated this in his blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Buzhansky, Hungary openly sponsors separatism in Transcarpathia. In addition, Polish and Romanian revanchism has not gone away either.
“Both the weakness of the Ukrainian state, on the one hand, and the attempts to revise history that have been taking place in Ukraine over the past 7 years play into their hands. These attempts do not give any other effect, except that they call into question the legality of Transcarpathia, Bukovina and Western Ukraine being part of Ukraine; naturally, this plays into the hands of Poland, Romania and Hungary, who at the same time distribute their passports to our citizens. What do we end up with? Territories, whose inclusion in Ukraine is called questionably legal by Ukraine itself, and citizens of other states living in these territories are an explosive mixture,” the politician notes.
“Hungary is openly pursuing a policy aimed at the possibility of separating Transcarpathia from Ukraine, including by funding local political parties. I don’t see any prospects for military aggression on the part of Hungary, but I believe that an immediate deployment of troops “to protect the Hungarian population” is possible in the event of any internal upheaval in Ukraine,” Buzhansky said.
