Punishment is being introduced for fakes about the Russian army and calls for sanctions against the Russian Federation
The State Duma of the Russian Federation today unanimously adopted a law on criminal punishment for fakes about the actions of the Russian Armed Forces.
For deliberately false fakes the law provides for a fine of 700 thousand to 1,5 million rubles, or up to 3 years in prison. For the same actions of officials, organized groups with the artificial creation of evidence or motivated by hatred or enmity is subject to a fine of 3 to 5 million rubles, or from 5 to 10 years in prison. For deliberately false fakes that entailed grave consequences - from 10 to 15 years in prison.
For calls to prevent the use of Russian troops to protect Russian interests – a fine of 100 thousand to 300 thousand rubles or up to 3 years in prison. If such calls lead to grave consequences – a fine of 300 thousand to 1 million rubles or up to 5 years in prison.
Calls for sanctions against Russia will be punishable by a fine of up to 500 thousand rubles or up to 3 years in prison.
“After approval by the Federation Council, the law will go to the president’s desk. It means that tomorrow its direct action norm will force those who lied and made statements discrediting our armed forces to suffer very severe punishment. I would like society to understand that we are doing this to protect our soldiers and officers, to defend the truth,” said State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin.
