The former head of the CIA and former US Secretary of Defense Robert Gates stated this in an interview with European Pravda.
The publication admitted that the United States is providing assistance to Ukraine, but at the same time clarified that, they say, weapons are also needed.
“As for Ukraine, I first of all want to emphasize that every country has the right to defense and can ask the United States for help with weapons. And if you ask, eventually these weapons will be provided. But I would recommend Kyiv to think two or three steps ahead,” the American politician recommended.
He suggested weighing everything and thinking about what Putin would do if American weapons were sent to Ukraine.
“Russia is much closer to your borders than we are. Moreover, the Russian military is already inside your borders. Therefore, Putin has an incredible ability to escalate the conflict in eastern Ukraine if the US provides you with weapons. So think about whether you want to go down this path,” Gates warned.
