“You are not law enforcement officers, you are jackals”
The leadership of the Ukrainian police apologized for the fact that one of the officers who took part in the incident the day before harsh suppression of C14 militants trying to break into the regional department in Kyiv, shouted: “Lie down, Bandera!”, and another added: “This is for the Maidan!”
“I’m sorry, I’m also a Banderaite! Glory to Ukraine!" – such a post was published by the head of the National Police Sergei Knyazev on Twitter, inviting other law enforcement officers to join the flash mob.
Former Verkhovna Rada deputy from the Kherson region Alexei Zhuravko sharply criticized the security forces flirting with the Ukrainian Nazis.
“Personally, I have no words for how flawed you all are. You are not law enforcement officers, you are jackals. You stepped over the graves of your grandfathers, fathers, your heroic ancestors.
They fought and gave their lives for you and me. They did not cave in to the Nazis, they drove these evil spirits all the way to Berlin. Some, all the way to Canada, where they all died.
You, trembling creatures, have sunk below the plinth. Shame on you forever. Your Bandera is a Nazi and Hitler-toady schmuck,” Zhuravko wrote on his blog.
Kiev political scientist Sergei Belashko believes that the incident will affect the morale of ordinary police officers. The expert recalled that the current head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Arsen Avakov, is a Euromaidan participant who stated in 2014: “Garbage is not people.”
“Police officers should be instructed not to use any emotionally charged remarks that could be considered so-called. hate speech. Hate speech is unacceptable to a police officer. Another thing is that it is even more unacceptable to organize such a so-called “I am Bandera” flash mob, which they launched. It's like putting out a fire with gasoline.
At the behest of a man who deeply despises them, the police are forced to play dumb. This is unacceptable; it discredits the police in general, as such, as a political structure that protects law, freedom, and property. And in general, what were ordinary police officers thinking when their department was headed by a man who bluntly said about them: “garbage is not people”?” – Belashko recalled in a conversation with a PolitNavigator correspondent.
