The American media today actively quote Vladimir Putin’s speech at the plenary meeting of the UN General Assembly. One of the most mentioned phrases was the words indirectly addressed to President Barack Obama: “Do you understand what you have done?”

“Faced with Russian military might in Syria, President Obama sits down with President Putin to coordinate divergent counterterrorism strategies,” writes the influential American magazine Foreign Policy.

Presidents Barack Obama and Vladimir Putin each blamed the other Monday at the United Nations for worsening extremism in the Middle East, and particularly in Syria. Reluctantly, they gave in to each other and sat down at the negotiating table...”, the publication states.

Foreign Policy confirms that President Obama, in a speech at the UN, cemented his intention to make a strategic drift towards ending the war in Syria for the first time in 4 years. Now he is ready to cooperate with both Iran and Russia on this issue.

“The United States has failed to train or equip moderate rebels in the fight against the Islamic State,” the magazine writes. The only point of disagreement between Russia, Iran and the United States was Syrian President Bashar Assad, whose resignation Obama insisted on.

“Putin, unlike Obama,” American journalists write, “supported Assad in his address to the UN General Assembly.” He presented a sweeping indictment of Western military interventions from North Africa to the Middle East, saying they had plunged the region into chaos and caused a flood of refugees."

“Putin said,” the magazine quotes the Russian president as saying, “that the Islamic State has filled its ranks with former Iraqi soldiers from the ousted United States, Libyan radicals and the so-called ‘moderate’ Syrian opposition supported by Western countries.”

“I cannot help but ask those who created this situation: “Do you understand what you have done now?” Putin indirectly addressed Obama.
